Guys Choice Date Recap & a Link Up!

When my husband invited me to attend the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am last week, I was at first let’s say less than enthused. You see I already kind of had plans, our church’s women’s ministry was having our very first Swap, Meet, & Eat, a clothes swap event and my idea of a good time usually is more in line with shopping, eating and chatting with friends then watching golf.

However, I do love my dear husband and I had already decided I would be taking one for the team and letting my sweetheart pick our date for the week. So I somewhat reluctantly said “sure”.

I honestly had no idea what to expect. I’ve watched golf on TV and I’ve even tried hitting some balls at the driving range but I am no golfer and I was worried I would get bored walking around watching a bunch of people who I had never heard of play.

I was in for quite a treat. . .

For starters we got to enjoy a bonus date a night last Friday as our original plan had been to wake up early on Saturday and drop the kids off at grandma’s but my sweet mom suggested we just have them spend the night on Friday so as to not have to be rushed in the morning. So we got to enjoy a relaxing evening alone before we even started our date! And as we got to chatting, sweet husband informed me that there would be some celebrities at the event.

Things were starting to get interesting. . .

Then on Saturday we got up early as planned and headed south, first stop was picking up our good friends Goose and Claudia who were double dating with us. Then we drove down to Pebble Beach. Oh and did I mention it was a glorious day? The sun was shining and temps were about 65-70 degrees.

We had quite the VIP treatment, with a special shuttle service and enjoyed food and beverages courtesy of our host.

Now I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Pebble Beach, but it is BEAUTIFUL. I mean check out these views. . .

So we grabbed some lunch and headed out to walk around and check out some of the holes and players. Honestly, it was fun so see celebrities like football starts Tony Romo and Aaron Rogers. I was super excited to see Giants pitcher Matt Cain who played with 49er Coach Jim Harbaugh. (Sadly, the were adamant about not allowing photos to be taken, but I did manage to sneak in my camera. . . don’t tell anyone).

Our sweet friends Claudia and Goose were happy to see Ray Romano and Wayne Gretzky, respectively. Other fun celebrities there included actors Andy Garcia, Josh Duhamel, and Bill Murray. But the best part of the day had to be when my husband got to meet world surfing champion, Kelly Slater. See as much as my hubby loves to golf, he loves to surf even more. So meeting him was quite a treat. We were even lucky enough to get a photo. Thank you Mr. Slater for making my husband’s day.

All in all, it was an awesome day. I had no idea going to a golf tournament could be so fun. But the Lord blessed us with great whether; we enjoyed good company and had a great time.
In fact, I may dust off my old clubs and starting hitting some golf balls myself. . .

  1. I love this story that you went out of your way to do something your hubby really enjoyed. We got a night away from the kids last weekend too – so fun to reconnect! Here’s to grandmas!
