5 Things I Learned in May

may lessons

You guys!! May came and went and I didn’t get a chance to get a blog post up. May is my favorite month for many reasons but this year was busier than I had expected. Now that things have settled down a bit I wanted to at least have a quick check in and share just a few things I learned in May:

Camp is not just for kids: This year I spent my birthday at Camp Allen , located just outside of Houston. I was attending the first “Courage Camp”; a three day gathering for Daring Way facilitators. It was hard to be away from family but it was a wonderful event . We had keynote messages from our leader, Brene’ Brown, some really interesting breakout sessions, and closed with Kristen Neff, the leading expert on self-compassion. It was great to get together with old friends and make new ones and it was just a lot of fun being away at “camp”.

I love what I do but if I could only do one thing, I think it would be lead retreatsImmediately after coming home from camp I left again this time to facilitate a retreat based on Brene’s Rising Strong curriculum. I love this work SO much. It is truly life-changing and even though I was pretty tired from all the traveling, it was so worth it.

Coton de Tulear puppies are adorable and hypoallergenic (this is a very important fact that I will share more about another time) but until this month I knew nothing about them.

I mean seriously. The cuteness is unreal.

I like 38 year old me. I turned 38 this month and I learned that I like myself probably more at this point in my life than I ever have before. Don’t get me wrong, I’m far from perfect and have a lot to work on still but I like myself. So this birthday was definitely a celebration of that very fact, which for me is a pretty big deal.

Little House on the Prairie books and TV show are still awesome and timeless. I had been reading through the book series with my 2nd grader and we started watching the TV series on DVD a few weeks ago. I had never watched the show because I was too little when it aired but it is so awesome to be able to watch it together as a family and we’ve been able to have some great conversations around contentment, simplicity, love, faith, etc. We all love Ma and Pa so much, even my 6 year old is hooked.

What I read:

5 Habits of a Woman who Doesn’t Quit by Nicki Koziarz

The Book of Acts- Bible Study

Rising Strong by Brene’ Brown (re-read)

What I watched:

Captain America Civil War

Little House on the Prairie- Season 1

  1. Coton de Tulears have always been on my list of dogs I MAY one day have but I heard they were too rare and settled for their cousin the Havanese.

    Love your list for May

  2. I turned 38 this month as well and am loving this season! And I am a diehard Little House fan {more than I should ever admit in print}. It’s true. They are timeless!!!
