Well 2022 is coming to a close and this year has b

Well 2022 is coming to a close and this year has been a lot. I haven't been on social media much because of my ongoing love/hate relationship with it but I may start showing up a bit more in the new year, who knows. ⁣
⁣
Anyway I shared in a lighthearted way about choosing my word for 2022, 𝗛𝗢𝗣𝗘 but honestly it started off really hard. To be honest, the first part of the year I really struggled. I hated being here. I thought the Bay Area was hopeless. ⁣
⁣
I thought during Covid that maybe like so many other people, we'd move and I got distracted by "the grass is greener" syndrome. Also, I was SO lonely. Good friends had moved, other friends had grown distant and I was struggling to find my people. I was depressed. In the spring I started seeing a counselor and that has helped a lot. ⁣
⁣
But I also prayed a lot. I prayed that if my circumstances would not change that God would change my perspective. And looking back, God answered that prayer miraculously. ⁣
⁣
My heart has so fully changed that I can't explain it except to say it was God. He literally transforms people, I 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 this to be true. ⁣
⁣
• I have made some new good friends and reconnected with old ones⁣
• I love all of the people I work with at my amazing church⁣ and our community
• My kids have also made good friends⁣
• I have been SO encouraged by what God is doing right here in the Bay Area that now, I look forward to being a part of it. ⁣
⁣

I started 2022 desperately in need of HOPE. And I am closing out the year more Hope-Full than I have felt in a long time. ⁣
⁣
Right now it's gray and cold and raining outside but there isn't any other place I would rather be. 💗⁣

And just like that my “baby” is officially a teenager. And I couldn’t be more grateful for this kid. Jake is the perfect combination of funny and thoughtful with just the right amount of spice. He’s a good friend and brother and I’m just so happy to celebrate the young man he is becoming. 🥳

About Jesus healing the leper who asked if He was willing, to make him clean. And I know many of us as still waiting on Jesus to be healed, it’s not that He can’t or isn’t willing necessary but just 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝙮𝙚𝙩. ⁣

Sometimes we get accused of not being healed because we don’t have enough faith and that’s wrong. I have complete faith that if God wanted me healed, He would do it. So if He hasn’t, it’s for a reason. I just don’t know what it is. And I’m at a place where I’m OK with that because He is God and I am not. ⁣
⁣
Pain sucks. But I’ve also learned a lot about compassion, empathy, patience and dependence on God in the waiting. And for that I am grateful. ⁣

Back to homeschool post as this was our first most

Back to homeschool post as this was our first mostly full week. E is officially in high school (what?!?!) and J is a 7th grader, and I 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 we've been doing this homeschool thing for over 10 years now. 🤯⁣
⁣
Honestly we really do take it one year at a time and considered doing something different this year but after a lot of prayer and thinking about what's best for our family we just didn't find any options that we like 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 than what we've been doing. Although this year looks a bit different, I'm not quite as hands on with the kids in some ways as they are doing more online classes and they're just more independent. But in other ways I’m still going deep with the subjects I love and pursuing truth, goodness and beauty in education. ⁣
⁣
I don't know if we'll homeschool the whole way through, maybe at some point we won't but for now I am savoring every minute I can, learning and growing with these two (mostly) amazing human beings. 🏠👩🏻‍🏫📚❤️⁣

May is my birthday month and it’s generally been a time for re-evaluation and adjusting. Honestly you guys, it has been an unusually busy season these last few months. Good but 𝘣𝘶𝘴𝘺. And as someone who really needs margin in my life it has been a bit of a challenge.⁣
⁣
Well today I took myself (and Jesus) on a date. I’m returning to the spiritual practice of breakfast/brunch dates; times when I can just be alone and think/pray/read/process. Basically just have time to BE. So often the weeks fly by and they’re just a blur, taking care of everything and everyone that needs something from me.⁣
⁣
I have neglected soul care and I have felt the cost.⁣
⁣
I recently read a book by @jenmiskov 𝘍𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘦, I was drawn to it because I had just been feeling stuffed. Like when you have a really big meal and you can’t even think of adding one more bit except not with food, I just felt stuffed with life. And it got me thinking about the importance of integrating times of fasting and feasting. Of filling and of making space. Yes there are days that are busy and people who need me for various things but I have to be intentional about making space physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. And not feel guilty about it.⁣
⁣
So friends, tell me. What’s your favorite way to practice soul care? And if you’re in SF/Peninsula what’s your favorite brunch/breakfast spot? I want to try out some new places for future soul dates. 😋
