I've had the hardest time lately engaging with soc

I've had the hardest time lately engaging with social media and had to step away for a bit. ⁣
⁣
It's all just a bit much sometimes, right? I've had this restless feeling that I couldn't quite put words to and a general "meh"-ness that's been weighing me down. ⁣
⁣
Recently I made a list, an exercise I do periodically- basically a brain dump of sorts that I call "𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴" where I list all of my roles and responsibilities. I realized looking at all of the things that have been competing for my time and attention that my heart, soul and mind have been stuffed to the brim and I need to make space. ⁣
⁣
I've been sitting with the word "empty" since last week. An empty tomb on Easter Sunday is a holy space. I think it's important to let God clean house and create holy empty spaces in my life too so that He can fill me up with life giving things. ⁣
⁣
These choices are not easy. But feeling emotionally stuffed to the point of overwhelm is no way to live either. With the first quarter of the year down, I'm thinking about how I want to spend the rest of 2021. Daily choices make up our days which make up our lives. And there really isn’t room for 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴. ⁣

It's Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten se

It's Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season and though I’m not a practicing Catholic anymore I do celebrate Lent as a non-denominational Christian and there's a part of me that misses the sprinkling of the ashes as a holy reminder. ⁣
⁣
I've been particularly mindful of this reality this week as we celebrated my uncle's life and laid him to rest yesterday. Dust to dust. . . ⁣
⁣
But I'm sitting with the idea of the time in between. Out of dust we come and that's how we'll end but what we do with the time in-between is significant. ⁣
⁣
In-between ashes we live. And I want to make good use of that time. ⁣
⁣

On Tuesday mornings I lead Bible study. We're currently in the book of Judges and I have a special place in my heart for Judges. ⁣❤️

This is what my life looked like over 10 years ago when I fell in love with studying the Word. I had 2 littles and two in school but I was desperate for more of God. I’ve been a Christian for most of my life but was sensing a calling to something more. A bit of an academic and Bible nerd I wanted to 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 the Bible more deeply. ⁣
⁣
This season though was not ideal for early morning "quiet time" but rather it was in the napping hours of the middle of the day that I had a small window to spend studying my Bible. ⁣
⁣
I didn't want to start at the beginning because one can get through Genesis and Exodus OK but then Leviticus and Numbers felt like too much for a mom of 4 who was already juggling too many names and numbers in my own head. ⁣
⁣
So, I dug into Judges and I began writing my notes and asking questions and wanting to know more. What else was going on at the time? What was the context? And so on. I researched and studied and wanted to share what I learned. And so began my passion for studying and teaching the Bible. ⁣
⁣
I love helping people understand the Word (including busy moms with littles 😉) so they can apply it’s timeless truths. ⁣
⁣
Judges was timely 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 and it really is so timely 𝘯𝘰𝘸. We're not that different from the Israelites, prone to wander and forget. Prone to put our faith in flawed human leaders. But spoiler- the hero of the story really isn't Gideon or Samson but the Lord God almighty who worked through imperfect leaders and accomplished His purposes in spite of them and 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴. ⁣

So very thankful for a break in the weather this weekend so we could get some sunshine, fresh air and good convo. Plus a lot of steps! 😆⁣

I heard @emilypfreeman say this on her podcast over a year ago. And it's stuck with me.⁣

I have been known to operate in "Zohary time". For a long time I felt behind, I would look at other people running their race and compare myself to their lane. ⁣
⁣
It can take me a while to process, I'm slow to respond to emails or texts sometimes. I used to think there was something wrong with me. ⁣
⁣
In the podcast Emily said, "there's nothing wrong with you when your actions don’t fit what may seem expected or obvious or when you leave opportunity on the table in favor of something more meaningful to you at the time. You aren’t missing out, and neither am I. When it comes to creativity, personal development, spiritual formation and life with God, your pace is your pace and there’s no such thing as behind." ⁣
⁣
I'm pressing into this and owning my pace this year. The internet is loud and I need time and space to think, reflect, process and respond. I can often see multiple perspectives, which is a good thing but it also takes me longer to draw conclusions. There are things I know in my gut and can respond to quickly but other things I have to sit with for a bit. ⁣
⁣
I'm already sensing 2021 as year of growth; I'm embracing who God created me to be and not apologizing for not fitting into other people's boxes. ⁣
⁣
My pace is my pace and I'm not behind. ⁣
⁣
What about you friends, anyone else ever struggle with traveling at a slower pace? ⁣
